Drawing and Painting
Produce a free hand sketch and shade or paint it in front of your examiner. You may choose any subject matter you like.
Arrange three items on the table in front of you and draw a still-life using pencil and paper.
Paint a landscape-real or imaginary-using paint on paper, board or canvas.
Create your own cartoon character using a pen on paper. Draw in the background. For copyright reasons, the character cannot be from another artist’s work (no tracing).
Design and Mixed Media
Design your own toy on paper and show side and top views with special details labelled.
Create a collage (using different textured and printed papers), frotage (creating textured rubbings) or montage (using pictures from magazines or photographs) to tell a story or make a poster.
Use natural or man-made objects, e.g. leaves, nuts, metal pieces or small gadgets and ink pad or paint to create a relief print.
Choose 2 paintings by an artist or different paintings by 2 different artists and talk about why you like them or talk about the story you see in the paintings.
Visit an art gallery and point out the art works you like and explain why you like them.
Collect pictures and make a six-page scrapbook using the pictures of objects you think might suit your house. Use some of the themes such as furniture, curtains and fabrics, electrical gadgets, crockery or china and wall decorations.
